Loved by drivers, the technical circuit features a challenging mix of 17 corners, featuring sweeping turns, long straights, hairpin bends and fast chicanes.

Opened in 2004 to host the country’s first ever Formula One race, the vast complex is located in the Jiading district, north-west of the city. The 5.451km circuit’s design draws inspiration from the Chinese character ‘shang’ and features 16 turns with a seating capacity of 200,000. It was designed by famous circuit architect, Hermann Tilke and features a twisty layout finishing with a very long back straight of almost 1.2km before a tight hairpin bend funnels the cars into the final two corners.
