Strong start for Craft-Bamboo Racing at the inaugural Suzuka 10 hour

For immediate release

Craft-Bamboo Racing got off to a positive start to the inaugural Suzuka 10 Hour race weekend. Despite not having raced at the Japanese circuit before, the all-star line-up consisting of Porsche factory drivers Laurens Vanthoor (BEL), Kévin Estre (FRA) and Porsche young gun, Mathieu Jaminet (FRA) were consistently fast in the unofficial practice sessions on Thursday.

The momentum was carried on into Friday, with the #991 Porsche 911 GT3 R showing good pace and topping the timesheets in the Free Practice 1. The team then continued to work on improving the car; displaying its adaptability in hot and cool conditions by finishing P5 in Free Practice 2, which ran mostly in the dark.

Kévin Estre (FRA) - Driver
“Overall a very positive day getting the laps in and experiencing the car on this amazing circuit. Tyre degradation was quite high but I believe all the other teams faced the same problem. Looking forward to the weekend ahead!”

Mathieu Jaminet (FRA) - Driver
“It was a good day and we improved the car session by session. Running at night was cool, especially on this fast and crazy circuit! The car had good balance in hot and cool conditions, and I’m confident for qualifying tomorrow (Saturday).”

Laurens Vanthoor (BEL) - Driver
“It was really good to have experienced the car in all conditions, although we had a few issues with balance initially, it was more or less solved with changes to the setup and we showed good pace. Should be competitive for qualifying and the race.”

Darryl O’Young – Team Director
“So far the team has worked well together and we had a really strong day. Having raced earlier in the year together at Bathurst helps, and the drivers are used to how the team works now and that is important for endurance racing. The team are encouraged by our pace in practice and we are well prepared for a good qualifying on Saturday and race on Sunday.”

Craft-Bamboo Racing shows potential for a strong result and will be pushing hard to maximise all aspects of performance from not only the car, but the drivers and the engineers as well. The team’s experience of the Suzuka circuit and endurance racing provides a good foundation to tackle the gruelling 10 hour race.

Qualifying begins at 1300 on Saturday, 25/8/2018
Race begins at 1000 on Sunday, 26/8/2018
All times in JST (GMT +9)
